I’m a canadian looking to learn about classical indian music. I can’t even find more than a few samples of the style in mp3 form and where I live, you can’t even buy anything. So if anyone out there has an mp3 collection of indian classical music .. I’d love to have access… !
I also want to find actual information on it. Everything from the basics like descriptions of instruments used and music to a study of the theory behind it. I know there is stuff on google, but I was hoping someone be able to point me in a direction.
Thanks!

Nice to hear that you are into Indian music.
Instruments typically used in Hindustani music include the sitar, sarod, tanpura, bansuri, shehnai, sarangi, and tabla. Instruments typically used in Carnatic music include flute, gottuvadyam, veena, mridangam, kanjira, ghatam and violin.

HI,
Well you will find many websites which provides you with details of ragas, alankars etc in Indian Classical Music. But i don’t know how much they can help you as music is more about practice.
You may follow the website recommended by other member. I would like to add ITC SRA website which is an Indian Academy located in Kolkata & provides lots of information on Raga, Alanakars & Gharanas. Also the website has a great database of music to listen.
All the Best!
