I am interested in studying Indian Classical Music at University in India specializing in Tabla after high school. It would make sense that I do relevant music courses in Grades 11 and 12 that would prepare me for this. For example study Hindi (which I am doing on my own), History of Indian Music, Music theory and a keyboard instrument such as the harmonium in order to study and learn ragas. I have been studying and learning Tabla for 3 1/2 years but I am sure I need a lot more preparation for university. If I could find a school of sound standards and some form of accreditation, I may be able to petition my school board and school to review the courses and possibly substitute appropriate ones for grade 11 & 12 credits. It would make my studies more cohesive and relevant to my post secondary goals. It would also make my work load more manageable since all my music studies are currently being done extra-curricularly. Any suggestions and/or advice?
