There is a mix feedback about the natural tremolo in one’s voice for Indian classical singing. I want to know is it good or bad? How one can remove tremolo if it is there in voice and how one can develop if it is required?
Any Classical Indian Singers Out There? I’m a beginner in Indian classical vocals but have had musical training all my life. I’ve just started to work with the raagini. I will...
Most would use the word vibrato vs tremolo for singing. Tremolo is usually used more for instruments or if the volume of the voice varies. I do not know much specifically about Indian Classical singing, however all genres fight about what stylistically should happen and where. I know I’ve heard it done in that type of genre. What I would tell you is do research on the practice of that SPECIFIC piece and see if it is stylistically appropriate. I also would say vocally it is safe to use a healthy vibrato for singing purposes. Strictly straight tone singing can be taxing for adults after while and many professionals that have studied pedagogy in depth would say strictly straight tone singing can be damaging over time.
A healthy vibrato is usually unnoticeable if you are singing correctly (unless you are holding a note). What people might complain about in the genre is too much wobble or fluttering in the vibrato. Perhaps thats the real issue, although I’ve heard fast vibrato done often in Indian music that could very well be appropriate.
Vibrato is created naturally though healthy vocal practices. There is nothing physically to do other than that. If you are younger, the vibrato may not be developed yet. Vibrato varies in ages. Some youngsters have it some don’t. The development will equal out in time.
