My teenage daughter is a very talented Indian classical dancer (Bharatanatyam) and would like to take part in some prestigeous
Indian classical dance contests in India or the US. We heard the results at some of these Indian dance competitions are rigged, and
the judges are incompetent or easily bribed, which is a matter of concern to us.
Learn Classical Indian Dance? It seems there is the gurukula system of learning classical Indian dance (Bharatanatyam in particular) and the other systems. Which is workable? What about learning...

If I were you I would first of all read very very carefully the reviews of Bharatanatyam competitions (mostly in Chennai) on http://bharatanatyam2dance.wordpress.com… .
what is “prestigeous”? what level should these indian classical dance contests be? national level or district-level? do you also consider classical indian dance competitions on tv like the jaya tv ‘thaka dhimi tha” or podigai’s “konjum salangai” (check out the indian classical dance videos on youtube, you will find some from indian classical dance competitions also)? do you want the one with a few different styles of indian classical dance and many dancers participating (like 100-200) or the small competitions?
For Bharatanatyam, I think that Indian Fine Arts, Music Academy, Natyarangam, Music Connoiseurs Club are the serious dance competitions. Maybe also BSNL-organized classical Indian dance competitions.
Indian classical dance competitions in the US are like village-level contests in India. Like the infamous Cleveland competition that shows the worst corrupted judging.
